Backing Queensland Maritime Jobs

Queenslanders know the importance of our coastline for tourism, fishing, aquaculture, trade and regional jobs.

Under a re-elected Palaszczuk Labor Government, intrastate coastal shipping will be a vital part of our Economic Recovery Plan.

Our strong health response has meant that we have kept our ports open and trade flowing, with the global pandemic highlighting how reliant we are on foreign shipping.

Since January we have implemented strict maritime protocols and quarantine measures to keep Queenslanders safe with a number of foreign crew members testing positive to COVID 19.

Reinvigorating Queensland’s coastal shipping industry will help build our capacity and resilience to respond to any future pandemic that disrupts international supply chains, as well as natural disasters like cyclones and floods.

That’s why a re-elected Palaszczuk Labor Government will commit $21million over two years to a plan to revitalise and
strengthen coastal shipping and reinvigorate Queensland maritime jobs.

Only a Labor Government understands that growing our maritime capacity will help protect us and will support regional jobs as part of our Economic Recovery Plan.
